Say hello to Walter! This handsome longer-legged wire haired pup is great with other dogs and would be perfect for either an adult home or a family with older responsible teenagers. He definitely enjoys a nice lap to snuggle in!
He is a bit skittish at first but settles down when all gets calm. He's a shadow when in the house but is fairly adventurous outside. He likes to play with tennis balls and other toys and is not afraid to play with others. He easily could be trained to use a doggy door if one is available. He will stay in a kennel without any fuss, but he will not go in on his own except to just lie down with the door open. Picking him up and placing him inside works...then he's just fine if you need to close the door.
We think Walter was a grazer in an earlier life, but he has adjusted quickly to being put on a twice-a-day schedule at meal times which will be much better for his overall health and weight in the long run. He should be fed separately from other pups since he can show food aggression. He's a very smart pup who will be an escape artist if the front door is opened and he has a free shot at the door, so special care will be needed to not allow this to happen!
Walter’s foster mom also reports that this scruffy, scrappy little pup is an absolute joy! He's as fun as he is cute. Even the first week he had no accidents in the apartment; he goes to the door to let you know when he wants to go out. Even though there are crates available, she hasn’t kenneled him when she leaves and he seems to do fine (no destruction, no accidents, and no complaints from neighbors).
He has the dachshund "big dog" personality! He chases cats, squirrels, and loud trucks. Sometimes he goes wild…and it’s adorable…with his tennis ball and squeaky toys and other times he's pretty chill with his toys. He and his foster mom’s personal dog have a good time together. He keeps a fast pace when on walks which she likes because her goofball mutt is super-charged when they walk!
Walter sleeps in the big bed at night and usually at the foot, but sometimes he creeps up near the pillow and even sometimes he sleeps on his foster mom’s back. He often sleeps on his own back as well. She is very happy to be fostering him and will be sad to see him go, but someone will be lucky to have this happy little sweetheart!
Walter deserves a wonderful loving home and will be a great addition to any responsible household. If you're looking for a devoted best friend and companion to share all good things in life with, please submit an adoption application for Walter. He'll quickly move right into your heart and your life and you'll wonder what you ever did without him!
