Chester was surrendered after his owner passed away. He is a sweet, playful, VERY busy, energetic, big puppy. At 7 months old and 15 pounds, he will be a strapping standard boy. When he is mature he will weigh about 20 pounds. He is very happy-go-lucky and thinks everyone should be his friend. He is very smart and is still learning manners!! He is very silly, curious, brash and brave (to a point) like a most Doxie puppies.
Chester sleeps nicely in his crate at night and while his foster is at work. He is working hard on his potty training and, being brilliant, he learned the doggie door in one day. He has only had a couple of accidents, but remember, despite his size he is only a puppy and needs reinforcement with potty time and everything else. He loves to play and chew on his toys but also must be monitored for other things he should NOT chew on such as blankets, sticks, mulch, rocks, slippers, sneakers, and your lunch you left on the table! As rocks and gravel have become a real issue, Chester will need a home with no access to either. He is learning to "sit" and "come" and "leave it". He can be a little mouthy when playing, as puppies can, but his foster mom is working on reinforcing "no bite". Even though he is great in his harness on walks, he needs some work on pulling because he is just so excited to go. He is a typical PUPPY!!!
Chester loves everyone and is super sweet and cuddly, once he stops moving and melts into your lap for a nap. He loves to play with his toys and even tosses them for himself from time to time when there is nobody to play fetch with. He loves to dig in his blankets and just figured out dirt is fun too so his foster mom has been working on that. He needs to be monitored when outside.
Chester is very smart and mischievous so he needs a firm but loving and experienced owner. He would do great with a single owner or a family with mid-aged to older kids. He needs a home with a securely fenced yard (no pool, no apartment). He would be great as an only dog with all the attention or with a youngish companion dog his size who is also super friendly, playful with a non-dominant personality. He is still learning doggie manners and sometimes other dogs may not appreciate or understand his innocent nature mixed with his very playful energy. PUPPY!!! Chester is current on shots, neutered and microchipped and ready for his new home. This precious boy has lost one home already he barely had time in. Since he is a sweet as a Hershey Kiss it is our hope that his next one will be his forever home. Dachshund puppies are a 15-20 year commitment. Before filling out an application, please be sure you are able to give him all the love, attention and commitment he needs.
