Description:

Schultz's story broke our hearts and within hours of hearing about him, one of our volunteers was at a Dallas shelter to rescue him.  Schultz had spent his entire life with his owner, a 97 year old man who was moving to a nursing home and could not take Schultz with him.  No family stepped up to take him and the man was forced to do the unthinkable - give up his companion and best friend.  Their story touched all our hearts and even had the shelter employee in tears as she spoke to the man.  He had written out a 2 page letter detailing all of Schultz's habits and likes & dislikes, hoping to make his transition to his new life easier.  He cried as he filled out the shelter paperwork, telling Schultz "I'll wait for you in Heaven."  Schultz was depressed and afraid in the shelter with no hope of ever being adopted, so the rescue coordinator reached out to us for help.

We're happy to report Schultz is now in a loving foster home where he's getting lots of TLC and attention.  As you can see from his pictures, his dad went a little overboard on the treats so Schultz is now on a diet with a tiny bit of exercise to take off some of those excess pounds.  Watch with us as Schultz sheds those extra pounds!  His weight when we rescued him was 27.9 lbs!

Update: May 18, 2011 - Schultz is doing well and fit in with the herd at his foster home like he'd always lived there.  He's getting short walks and his foster parents are practicing portion control on his meals to help him slowly lose some weight.  He's already lost 2.7 pounds!  Go Schultz!!

Update: September 11, 2011 -Schultz is doing great with his spa program!  They have even called him to be on the BIGGEST LOSER, but he is camera shy!
