Description:
Schnapps is a very special guy. He is approximately 8 yrs old and was surrendered by a breeder. It's very obvious that up until coming into rescue Schnapps' life had been pretty rough. He had never been socialized so he was very skittish, scared of his own shadow. Slowly but surely he is starting to build trust with his foster family and he's starting to enjoy the finer things in a dog's life, such as affection from humans, lying on the couch, treats, etc. Schnapps loves walks and has a good energy level. Regular walks with the pack have helped him build confidence. He would do well in a home with at least one other well adjusted dog because he seems to take his cues from his foster brothers and sisters. No small children and a quieter home environment would suit Schnapps best. He doesn't appreciate loud noise or sudden movements. He is crate trained and is working on house training. Affection is on Schnapps' terms but he is seeking it out increasingly more often. He can be quite the love bug at times. Schnapps has come a long way in a short period of time. He will require patience and dedication from his adoptive family in order to continue his social development. Schnapps is coming out of his shell and his foster family thinks he has amazing potential. If you're willing to make the commitment to Schnapps, he will reward you by blossoming into a happy wiener.

Update: August 17, 2008 - Schnapps has become far more affectionate and trusting during the time he's been with his foster family. He now actively seeks out affection from his foster parents and challenges his foster sisters for primo cuddle spots. He has perfected house training and he quickly learned how to use a newly installed doggy ramp leading from the deck down to the backyard. Schnapps continues to amaze his foster parents with how far he's come from his dismal days as a breeder dog when the only life he knew was in a tiny cage. We're sure Schnapps will continue to amaze in his forever home if given a chance...
